A two part project focusing on mixed media and materiality in art.
Fourth and Third grade students began understanding the idea of mark making through fabric dyes and how to manipulate and warp those colors through rubber bands and elastics. From there, fourth grade students created spiral shaped tie dyes and third grade created bullseye shaped tie dyes on 8in. X 8 in. square fabric. As the fabric was being processed they began learning and understanding the history of mandala making, and began creating their own radially symmetric designs. Third grade students placed those designs on their fabric using two different sized sharpies, while fourth grade students used four different sized posca markers to focus on line weight.
